Pep Talk

pep talk

This weekend, I packed up my life for the third time in a year to move on to the next chapter.

This year has seen various chapters for me. So much so that I feel like an oldie! But with it have come lessons and experiences that I will always hold close to me.

Most of my close friends have finished their degree and are planning the next steps in life. I haven’t spoken to a single friend that is confident in those next steps. The world is scary and change isn’t something we are faced with regularly. So here are my words of advice for anyone going through it:

Just because you don’t have a job or a boyfriend or you didn’t get a 2:1 or you’re absolutely bottom of the pit skint. Remember, there is always someone out there who is doing worse than you. It might feel like life is uncertain and for the first time ever you feel like you’ve lost control of your life. But it’s the complete opposite. For the first time in your life you don’t have to adhere to the rules of society. You have the power to take the reins and do whatever you feel like doing.

Ask yourself: If I could do anything right now, what would it be?

Now, do it.

If you can’t do it immediately, work to it. Set a goal and work for it. That goal might be to go travelling, to climb the career ladder, to run a marathon, maybe you just want to be happy. Whatever it is, there is nothing stopping you.

This time is a time for opportunity. Doors close on us everyday but it’s the ones that open that we should pay attention to. Always say yes. Take every opportunity even if it scares the shit out of you.

And most importantly. Believe in yourself. Positivity, smiles, laughter and happiness are the key to success.

Success shouldn’t be defined by the amount of money you earn. It should be defined by how regularly you look back on a day and think “Man, that was a good day.”

You’re one of a kind and have a blank page to write your own story from scratch. And that’s pretty cool.

The Monthly Sacrifice: February

Monthly-Sacrifice-Cocoa-Bean-Free

If you’ve been following my Monthly Sacrifice (which you probably haven’t), then you’ll know that February is the month I abstain from chocolate; the cocoa bean, the holy grail of sweet things! I am crazy you say, It’s Valentines Day this month! I hear you cry – believe me I know. For some reason, Valentines Day didn’t cross my mind when I booked chocolate in for February – that’s probably the singleton in me! I made my bed, now I must lie in it.

I don’t think it will be too difficult to avoid, I think where I might trip up is if I don’t realise something has chocolate in it – like a drink or a biscuit! However I will endeavor to overcome the obstacles and make it through the whole of February without satisfying my chocolate cravings! Feel free to join me!
